Bi-monthly book reviews to help Austin-area writers write.
A BOOK CLUB FOR WRITERS is a laid back group where we study the working processes of accomplished and prolific writers like Stephen King, Philip Pullman, Margaret Atwood, Ursula LeGuin, and more.
Once every other month, we meet for dinner and discuss one writing-craft book chosen by the group (voted on after the meeting).
We discuss our takeaways, what we think will work for our own processes, what we think won’t, and our favorite and least favorite parts.
It’s an open dialogue, so the format is laid back and chatty. The overall thoughts from the group will be shared in a blog post written by the host, Charlie Amen, over on The Page of Cups.
Members are invited to a Discord server for us to chat between meetings, vote on future reads, and generally connect as writers in the Austin, Texas area.

Joining is free! You’ll simply pay for your dinner at the restaurant we meet at. You can expect to pay $30-$50. You may also choose to purchase the book chosen by the group, but we love libraries here and will always pick a book that can be acquired at Austin Public Library. 😊

If you’re a writer and you live in the Austin area, you’re qualified!
You don’t need to be published and any genre of writing is welcome.
Our craft books will likely favor prose fiction, but we’re happy to include works outside of that scope (as we’ll be voting on the chosen book each round).

Upcoming meetings will fall in mid-August, mid-October, and mid-December.
Exact dates and times are to be determined, but it’s likely to be on Sunday evenings from 6pm-10pm.
-
Central Austin, and the restaurant of choice will vary with each meeting.

My name is Charlie Amen and I’m an illustrator by day and a speculative fiction writer by night. I moved to Austin in 2022 and really love the city so far! I’m looking forward to making new writer friends in the area.
